Hurricane Isabel off the US East Coast

The outer bands of Hurricane Isabel sweep over Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, in this true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image taken by NASA's Aqua satellite on September 17, 2003 at 2:24 pm, US Eastern time. At this time, the eye of the hurricane was still about 350 miles from the US shoreline, but moving north-northwest at 11 miles per hour. Isabel is a Category 2 hurricane, with sustained winds of 105 miles per hour.
