This true-color image of the Northeast United States and Canada was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on August 11, 2002. At left center edge is New York, with New Jersey to its south and the eastern part of Pennsylvania to the southwest. To the southeast of New York is Connecticut, followed by Rhode Island. To their north is Massachusetts, and to its north are New Hampshire (right) and Vermont (left). New England’s northernmost state is Maine. Northeast of Maine are New Brunswick, Canada, and the “island” of Nova Scotia.
