Sun glint on the Nile

This interesting true-color image of Egypt gives the illusion that the Nile River has dried up into piles of highly reflective salt. The illusion is created by sun glinting off the water and vegetation near the banks, washing out the color, and giving the river a grayish appearance in the center, and whitish where the river backs up behind the Aswan Dam. This image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer on the Terra satellite on July 28, 2002.
