A large number of fires can be seen burning throughout Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and El Salvador. The fires, which are represented by red dots, are burning hot enough to be seen by the MODIS sensor, which flies in an orbit 705 km above the Earth's surface. The smoke plumes from a number of the fires are visible at the 1 km resolution and can be seen more clearly in the higher resolutions.
