Dust storm in northeastern China

Thick clouds of dark tan dust sweep across northeastern China in this true-color Aqua MODIS image from April 14, 2005. Focusing on the river valley leading to Liaodong Wan and Bo Hai Bay, strong shades of brown dominate the image. Spring in this part of the world means increased winds and dust storms, making gradually-greening vegetation hard to see. This is the Manchuria region of China, between the Greater Khingan Range in dark brown at upper left, and the multiple smaller mountain ranges leading into Northern Korea at lower right.
