Northern Brazil and Suriname

Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, and northern Brazil are featured in this true-color Terra MODIS image from September 3, 2002. Prominent in the image are the Amazon River in Brazil (bottom), Professor von Blommestein Neer Lake in Suriname (top), and a large patch of brown land along the Suriname - Brazil border. Two fires, marked in red, sit on the western edge of this clearing, which is likely the result of deforestation and agriculture.
