SeaWiFS: Gulf Coast Sediments

Various shades of brown color the water along the Louisiana/Mississippi/Florida coast as suspended sediments and colored organic matter flow out of the region's river systems. The bridge across Lake Pontchartrain into New Orleans is barely visible as a slightly brighter line against the lake's green and brown backdrop. What appears to be a smoke plume is streaming southward from the eastern shore of Pensacola Bay.
