Explorer Base Map

This map was developed to provide the underlying base for the Earth Observatory Explorer browse tool. There is a 0.1 degree (3600x1800) PNG file, a full resolution map, without borders (21600x10800) and a tar/gzipped image pyramid archive (Mercator) of the map suitable for implementing within a mapping client, such as Leaflet. The pyramid archive tiles have mapping borders on them. The two global maps are georeferenced using World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS 84; EPSG:4326) coordinates.

NASA Earth Observatory map by Joshua Stevens using data from NASA’s MODIS Land Cover, the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), the General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO), and Natural Earth boundaries.
